NOTICE TO GROVETOWN CITIZENS REGARDING ON-STREET PARKING.

NOTICE TO GROVETOWN CITIZENS REGARDING ON-STREET PARKING.

To the Citizens of Grovetown,
In recent months, the Mayor, City Council and City staff have received numerous complaints regarding on-street parking in the City’s residential areas. Infractions include parking on sidewalks, blocking City fire hydrants, dilapidated or inoperable vehicles, vehicles blocking citizen driveways and many other various complaints.
Based on these complaints, Mayor and City Council want to take an opportunity to remind people of accepted parking practices to avoid future interruption of traffic flow as well as possible citation for violation of the City’s parking code. Mayor and City Council plan to empower staff to begin issuing warning and citations for violations of various provisions in chapter 15 of the City’s Code of Ordinances beginning September 1, 2021. Specific areas of concern expressed by the Mayor, City Council, and City staff include but are not limited to the following:
1) No parking on sidewalks at any time. Sidewalk parking violates the Americans with Disabilities Act and will not be tolerated,
2) Parking too far away from the curb as to prevent the proper flow of traffic (including public safety),
3) Parking too close to an intersection to allow proper lines of sight for traffic in motion,
4) Blocking a fire hydrant preventing Fire Department access during an emergency. (In the event of a life-threatening call or fire, the public safety department will take actions necessary to move any improperly parked vehicle(s) at the owner’s expense)
5) Dilapidated, inoperable or unused vehicles left on the road,
6) Parking in the opposite direction of traffic flow.
If you have any questions regarding street parking compliance, please reach out to the City’s Department of Public Safety at (706) 863-4576, option 501.
